Ratings

It's all about ratings. I was curious about Beauty and the Geek's ratings, so I looked 'em up. The results are interesting:

(in millions)
Ep. 3 (Jan. 26th): 4.42
Ep. 4 (Feb. 2nd): 4.56
Ep. 5 (Feb. 9th): 4.08
Ep. 6 (Feb. 16th): 4.18

Tristin and I were eliminated at the end of Episode 4. Then, after we left the show, the ratings dropped by almost half a million viewers. I avoided the initial temption to assume that Tristin and I were the reason for the drop. I've taken too many psych classes to know that there are several ways to explain a correlation. (yes, I did actually learn a few things from my psych classes.) At first, I thought: "Well, maybe Smallville (which is right before Beauty) had a great episode on Feb. 2nd and that carried over to BATG (Beauty and the Geek)." But it turned out the opposite was the case:

Smallville Feb. 2nd: 5.36
Smallville Feb. 9th: 5.41

I also thought: "Perhaps more people watched the fourth episode because it was the makeover episode. I mean, Ankur got his chest waxed!" I think that's partly true, but it only accounts for .14 mil. of the viewers (episode 4 only brought up the previous amount of viewers by .14).

Perhaps there was a special on in that time slot just for that week. If there was, I haven't found out about it. (This was before the Olympics).

Now, I realize that there are a lot of other factors, but I'm still left with my initial theory: Tristin and I brought in some ratings. Not a half a million, but part of it. Now, this is just a theory, but it has some merit. These are the reasons why I think Tristin and I brought in some ratings:

First, I think Tristin and I created a lot of drama. Well, I created most of it, and Tristin magnified it.
Second, people really liked Tristin.
Third, some people really disliked me... and wanted to keep watching until I lost.
Fourth, some people really liked me and enjoyed my sense of humor.
Tristin and I kinda attracted a wide spectrum of viewers: Tristin attracted people who are more sensitive, sentimental and maybe a little softer. I attracted people who are thick skinned and rough around the edges. (Since I've been going out recently, I've found that most guys, and girls who are thick-skinned, seem to really like my sense of humor.)

The other thing I've noticed while going out is that most people have a definite opinion of me. I evoked strong emotions one way or another.

(I got the ratings from the LA Times.)

Heads up: I will be on Reality Remix on Thursday, on Fox Reality Channel. It should be pretty interesting --
Kennedy asked me some tough questions. You can actually watch it online after 5pm (well, at least you are supposed to be able to watch it online at that time, but sometimes they take longer).

I don't want to get all geeky on you, but let's borrow some stuff from intro stats. Take out episode 5 from the mix. From the remaining episodes (including 1 and 2 if you can find them) calculate the standard deviation and the mean of the # of viewers. Then conduct a Student's t-test with respect to episode 5. You'll probably find that episode 5 is not statistically significant from the rest of the episodes in terms of viewers. It may all be from random chance. (P.S., if a girl grins at you from afar in a crowded room, does it mean she likes you? She could. But she could also just be happy passing gas and the grin was not statistically significant. Take care :))

Well, I watched Beauty and the Geek every week until you and Tristin left. I was so upset! I stared at the screen for like, five minutes! lol! I think I've missed the last two episodes. I'll definitely tune in for the finale this week! Oh, you're freakin awesome!

I didn't watch as much when you and Tristan got kicked off. I liked the drama. It would've been better if there was no elimination.
You're my favorite reality personality along with Dave from Paradise Hotel.

What are you going to do after your 15 min. are up? Are you going to go hollywood or just chill and sell shirts?

Peace

I don't know about the rest of America, but I was sad when you and tristan left. I really wanted you guys to stay on and "kick their asses" (love the cards.) :D I still watch the show, but with each new episode I can't help thinking that it just isn't the same without you guys. Anyways, keep on blogging, love hearing from you!

To be honest with you, ever since you and tristin got eliminated, I havent cared to watch the show as much as before. I really enjoyed seeing you two work together because you guys appeared to be true oposites. Another reason is that I hate watching Cher in the show. Why is she even on? She's really not a beauty with no brains and she really comes off as not wanting to gain much from the show except for the money. I hope she gets eliminated soon-she really kills the purpose of the show which is to learn from her fellow geek and she hasnt been showing that at all in the show.

Okay, I'm going to be honest. I couldn't appreciate you until you left the house. I am sensitive and related to Tristin when you made your comment at the Dating Challenge. You apologized and truly felt remorse for it and it showed. But once, you left the house you really started to grow on me for many reasons. When I see you getting your chest waxed for some reason I get a little excited. Strange I know. And when you are greeting one of the girls on the dating challenge I thought you looked pretty sexy and cute. I like your smile. And your sense of humor isn't lost on me.
You came off pretty strong according to the clips they showed but I know there was so much more of you we didn't get to see. I keep checking here for more funnies because you are seriously comical and I love it! I wish you the best in everything.

terra: i left a message on your blog.

jae: you did not just try to bust some stats on me! I just took stats about a year ago. you've got the right idea, that stats is the right way to go. I think it's great that you're trying to apply it. Now, if we were do a stats test, we wouldn't simply want to test if episode five is different from the rest of the episodes. Rather, we would want to test whether all the episodes that Tristin and I were in (ep 1-4) were statistically different from the remaining episodes (ep 5-8). That would be the right way to test whether she and I affected the ratings. (Basically, you'd have two groups, and you'd have to see if they were statistically different.) Now, I don't know how to get the numbers for ep. 1 and 2, and the numbers for ep. 7 and 8 aren't available yet, so we can't do that test. If and when those numbers do come out, and you know how to do that test, then please do so. However, it's almost impossible to get a result from such a small sample size. Also, any observation can be due to random chance. In psych, the only requirement is that a result be significant 95% of the time. That means five percent of the time, it could be random chance. I think, if the sample size were bigger, there would be a statistically significant result. Maybe not 95%, but something significant.

tracy: thanks.

annie: I think they're already up. I'm just going to work on t-shirts for now.

nesa: thanks nesa.

erika: i don't know what to say.

shannda: Wait a minute... did you just say that watching a guy get waxed turns you on? thanks for the support though.

Hey Chris! I just saw your interview with Kennedy. You looked great! You brought a smile to my face when I heard you slip in your "working on my PhD towards bow-hunting" bit, lol. And I was proud of you to repeat your apology towards Tristen, even though you've probably done more that 20 times. Props to you. Remain awesome always =)

Oh my goodness, how embarrassing. Eeeeek! I was trying to clean it up a little by not saying "turned on" but yes, yes it's true. There was something about the way you braced yourself for it and had that nervous smile and then just yelled out when they ripped it off. I'm so ashamed. Forgive me, apparently I have issues.

I saw your interview with Kennedy. Very cool and you keep those special kisses for someone extra wonderful! Maybe Glover? Glover, I love you! You're so cute!

You're adorable! Way to go Chris! Will you be making a shirt with:
I put the eek in Geek? I think it fits me quite well. ;)

Hey Chris. So I checked your blog today and clicked on the link to the Kennedy clip...this has been said before, but I'll say it again: You were terrific. The boob bit was funny, as well as your reaction to the sultry, glasses-clad host mocking you with her lucious berry-colored lips. How could you resist the temptation? You looked like you were blushing, but that could've been due to the saturated contrast on the computer screen I was watching it from. Either way, I enjoyed watching that.

And good job on those stats! I'd say you made an impact on the ratings. People don't seed Beauty and the Geek as fast as before, so I can't download any new episodes. Wait, did I say that out loud?

You were my favorite "geek" - I thought you were too cute to be a geek, cuter than Wes. Hopefully now you don't become a famewhore. That'd be tragic. But since you WERE on a reality show, you probably will (no offense)... :-) Also, I didn't understand the problem with your topics on the date challenge either. Lol, I thought you were pretty funny. You tell my kind of jokes, apparently. Anyway, that said - I'm going to buy a shirt. Good luck with... everything?

Oh Christopher, you're so cute I just can't stand it! So, inquiring minds want to know? Are you still working out?

I confess even I would have had a hard time resisting Kennedy's charms. How on earth did you show such restraint?

it was tough resisting kennedy, and i knew it would be, so i injected my self with estrogen before going on the show.
